AI grading assistant

The assistant drafts feedback on each submission against your rubric: what works, what is missing and where to revise. It never gives a mark. The teacher reads the work, edits the comments and decides the grade, which reaches the grade book only when the teacher enters it.

The Old Way Transform My Institution

Where you are today

Holding you back

  1. Evenings spent writing comments

Forty notebooks, forty sets of remarks, written by hand after the school day has ended.

    Pain point

  2. Feedback that shrinks to a tick

By the thirtieth copy, useful comments turn into “good” or “see me”, and students cannot tell what to fix.

    Pain point

  3. Rubrics applied unevenly

Two teachers marking the same assignment weigh the criteria differently, and nobody can show why a mark was given.

    Pain point

  4. No record of how a mark was reached

When a parent or a revaluation request asks about a grade, the reasoning is not written down anywhere.

    Pain point

  • HoursWriting comments on one set of copies
  • 2+Ways the same rubric gets applied
  • RarelyA written reason behind a mark

Your institution, transformed

Everything connected

  1. A first draft of every comment

Feedback is drafted criterion by criterion for each submission, so the teacher edits rather than starts from nothing.

    Solved

  2. Feedback a student can act on

Strengths, gaps and the passages worth revising, in plain words tied to the rubric.

    Solved

  3. The same rubric for every copy

Comments follow the criteria the department set, so feedback is consistent across sections and teachers.

    Solved

  4. A record behind every grade

The teacher’s mark, the feedback released and who changed what are kept for any later question.

    Solved

  • 0Marks assigned by AI
  • 1Rubric per assignment, shared by the department
  • 0Comments released without the teacher

Feedback drafted against your own rubric

The rubric you already use decides what the feedback talks about. For each submission the assistant drafts comments under every criterion, pointing to strengths, gaps and passages worth revising. There is no new marking framework to adopt.

  • Comments drafted under each criterion of your rubric
  • Strengths, gaps and passages to revise, written for the student
  • Keep, edit, rewrite or discard any comment

The teacher reads the work and sets the grade

A draft speeds up writing the feedback, not forming the judgement. Teachers read each submission as they always have, cut or correct the comments, and enter the grade themselves.

  • No marks or scores from AI, for a submission or for a criterion
  • Nothing written to the grade book or student record without the teacher
  • Feedback reaches a student only when the teacher releases it

Governed like every AI action in iVake

When a parent, a head of department or a revaluation panel asks how AI was involved, the answer is on the record: what was drafted, what the teacher changed, who entered the mark and when the feedback was released.

  • Every draft, edit, mark and release logged with the actor and the time
  • Access scoped by role, so a teacher sees only their own sections
  • Student work kept in your region and never used to train a model

Frequently asked questions

Get answers to common questions from teachers and heads of department

Does the grading assistant assign grades?

No, and that is deliberate. It drafts feedback against your rubric. The teacher reads every submission and decides every mark, because a grade has to be defended to a student, a parent or a revaluation panel by a person.

What does it actually save time on?

Writing the comments. Teachers still read the work, but they start from a draft organised by criterion instead of a blank margin, so the time goes on judgement rather than on phrasing the same point forty times.

Which kinds of assignment does it work with?

Written work marked against a rubric: essays, long answers, lab and project reports, and case analyses. Work with one correct answer per question is better set as a quiz.

How is it governed across the institution?

Like every AI action in iVake. Access follows role, the assistant can be switched on per department or programme, and every draft, edit and release is written to the audit trail with the actor and the time.

How is this different from tools that grade automatically?

Automatic grading puts a mark on a student’s work that no teacher has formed. Here the teacher reads the work and sets the grade; the assistant only shortens the writing of the feedback.

Does it check for plagiarism or AI-written work?

No. It gives no verdict on whether work was copied or written with AI. Academic integrity questions stay with the teacher, who can see the work and talk to the student.

Is student work used to train AI models?

No. Submissions are processed to draft the feedback in front of the teacher and for nothing else. They are not used to train or fine-tune any model and are never pooled with other institutions’ data.

Can parents see the feedback?

Once the teacher releases it, the comments and mark sit on the student record, and students and parents see what their access allows in the app.
