See what discussion boards change at your institution
Before vs. after adding discussion boards to iVake
Where you are today
Holding you back
The same question, answered again and again
A teacher with three sections answers “is Unit 4 in the internal?” one student at a time, and nobody else sees the reply.
Pain point
No record of academic discussion
When a peer team asks how students engage outside the classroom, the department has feedback forms and anecdotes, not a record.
Pain point
Class groups the teacher never sees
Questions go to student-run WhatsApp groups where answers go unchecked and a wrong explanation travels fast.
Pain point
Quiet students stay silent
Students who never speak in a sixty-seat room go the whole semester without asking a question or hearing from a peer.
Pain point
- 3+Places a class question gets asked
- 1 by 1Answers sent to each student separately
- 0Answers kept for the next batch
Your institution, transformed
Everything connected
Answered once, seen by the class
A reply on the board reaches every student in the section, and the next student finds it before asking.
Solved
Participation on the record
Posts, replies and active weeks per student are counted from the board, ready to attach to the IQAC file.
Solved
Discussion the teacher can see
The board belongs to the subject and section, so the teacher moderates it and corrects a wrong answer early.
Solved
Another way to take part
Students who will not raise a hand can post a question or a reply in writing, in their own time.
Solved
- 1Board per subject and section
- 1Answer for the whole class
- 0Boards created by hand

One answer that reaches the whole section
A question asked by forty students needs one reply, not forty. The board keeps every answer where the class can search it, and the most-asked questions can be pinned to the top.
- Replies on the board are visible to every student enrolled in the section
- Students search earlier threads before posting a new question
- Pinned threads for syllabus, internal assessment dates and assignment rules
Participation evidence for accreditation
Participation is counted as it happens: posts, replies, threads started and the weeks each student was active. When the IQAC wants evidence of learning outside the lecture, it runs a report instead of collecting anecdotes from departments.
- Posts, replies, threads started and active weeks for every enrolled student
- Export to PDF or a spreadsheet, with dates, for the IQAC file
- Threads kept exactly as written, for reviewers who want to read them
Course knowledge that carries to the next batch
Boards are archived at the end of the semester rather than deleted. The clearest explanations and corrected misunderstandings stay with the subject, so each batch starts from what the last one learned.
- Teachers mark useful threads from earlier batches as visible to new students
- A teacher taking over a subject inherits every question earlier students asked
- Students without a study group read the same explanations as those with one

Frequently asked questions
Get answers to common questions about discussion boards
How is a discussion board different from the community forum?
A discussion board belongs to one subject and section, and only its enrolled students and assigned teachers can see it. The community forum is open across the institution, for programmes, clubs, hostels and alumni. Both run on the same platform with the same login.
Does someone have to create a board for every subject?
No. When a subject section is set up and students are enrolled, its board is created and access follows enrolment. Teachers can then organise it by unit, week or assignment.
Can participation data be used for accreditation?
Posts, replies, threads started and active weeks are recorded for every student and export to PDF or a spreadsheet with dates, so a reviewer can see that discussion ran through the semester. Whether it evidences a particular metric depends on the current manual for your institution type.
What happens to threads when the semester ends?
They are archived, not deleted. Teachers choose which threads stay visible to future batches and which stay with the original class, and they can search earlier archives while planning the next term.
Can teachers approve posts before the class sees them?
Yes. Each subject can use open posting, approval before a post appears, or review after posting with the option to hide a post. Teachers can also pin threads and mark best answers.
What can students post?
Formatted text, images and file attachments, with code blocks and equations for the subjects that need them. Students can quote earlier posts, mention a classmate or teacher, and follow a thread to be alerted to replies.
Is it suitable for school students?
Boards are limited to the section’s own students and teachers, posts can be held for approval, and removals are logged. iVake does no advertising or behavioural profiling of students. Schools decide whether and how younger classes use it.
We already use Moodle or Google Classroom. Do we need this?
Not necessarily. iVake connects to Moodle and Google Classroom, and course discussion can stay there. The iVake board suits institutions that want discussion beside attendance, marks and the student record, on one login.
