Face recognition attendance

Face recognition attendance for schools, colleges and universities that records students and staff as they arrive, with nothing to touch and no queue at a reader. Each recognition is written to the same attendance register as the teacher app, so parents hear the same day and nobody reconciles two systems.

  • No credit card required
  • Free 30-day trial
  • Full feature access

The Old Way Transform My Institution

Where you are today

Holding you back

  1. Queues at the scanner

Students line up at a fingerprint reader at the gate or between classes, and the first minutes of the period are lost.

    Pain point

  2. One surface touched by everyone

Hundreds of hands press the same sensor every day, and parents ask how it is kept clean.

    Pain point

  3. Proxy marks that go unnoticed

A friend answers the register or taps a card for someone who is not there, and nobody can say how often it happens.

    Pain point

  4. Enrolment week at the device

Every student is registered in person on the reader, and those whose prints will not scan are brought back again.

    Pain point

  • 2+Registers to reconcile, device and paper
  • MinutesLost at the reader each changeover
  • WeeksBefore a family hears

Your institution, transformed

Everything connected

  1. Recognised on arrival

Students and staff are marked as they walk past a camera terminal at the gate or door, without stopping at a reader.

    Solved

  2. Nothing to touch

There is no shared sensor to clean, and no card to lend or forget at home.

    Solved

  3. Proxy attempts flagged

Terminals with liveness checks reject a photo or a screen, and unmatched faces are held for review, not marked present.

    Solved

  4. Enrolled from photos you hold

Templates are prepared from student photos already on the record once consent is recorded, and poor photos are flagged for a retake.

    Solved

  • 1Register for face, device and phone
  • 0Registers typed up later
  • Same dayParent alert on an absence

No queues and no shared surfaces at the gate

Students walk through the gate or classroom door and are recognised on the way in. There is nothing to press, no line at a reader and no teaching time spent waiting for a scan.

  • Camera terminals at gates, classroom doors, labs, libraries and hostels
  • Arrival time recorded, so a late entry is marked late, not absent
  • Staff check-in on the same terminals, recorded against payroll

Proxy attendance stopped at the door

An attendance mark should mean the student was in the room. Terminals that check for a live face reject a printed photo or a phone screen, and anything the system is unsure of goes to a person rather than into the register.

  • Liveness checks on supported terminals reject photos, screens and video replays
  • Faces below your confidence threshold held for review, never marked present
  • Each recognition logged with the terminal, the time and the session it was matched to

Enrolment from the photos already on record

No enrolment queue at a device. Templates are prepared from student photos iVake already holds, once consent is recorded, and only the photos that are too old or too dark need a retake.

  • Templates prepared from existing student photos after parental or student consent
  • Old or poor-quality photos flagged for a quick retake in the app or at the office
  • Students admitted mid-year recognised once their admission photo is on file

Frequently asked questions

Get answers to common questions about face recognition attendance

Can we use face recognition for children under the DPDP Act?

Under the DPDP Act your institution is the Data Fiduciary and iVake is a Data Processor acting on your instructions. For anyone under eighteen the Act expects verifiable parental consent, which iVake records with its purpose, and families who decline stay on the teacher app or an RFID card. This is not legal advice, and your institution remains responsible for its own compliance.

What happens when a student’s appearance changes?

Recognition relies on the structure of the face rather than hair, glasses or a head covering, so ordinary changes rarely matter. If a student’s matches start to fall below your threshold, they are flagged for a fresh photo and the old template is replaced.

Does it work if the network or power fails?

Supported terminals can hold recognitions and send them when the connection returns, with the original times kept. If a terminal is down, teachers mark the class in the teacher app, which works offline, and the register shows which method each mark came from.

What about a crowded gate where many students arrive at once?

How many faces a terminal handles depends on the camera, its position and the lighting, so gate layouts are planned with you before go-live. Anyone the system cannot match with confidence is held for review rather than marked present or absent.

How reliable is it across all our students?

Reliability depends on the camera, the lighting and photo quality. We recommend a trial with your own students before go-live, and the review list shows where matches are weak, so a terminal can be moved or a photo retaken.

Can it check students into the examination hall?

Yes. An exam mode can require each candidate to be recognised at the hall entrance and matched against their hall ticket and seat, with a higher confidence threshold than daily attendance.

Which cameras or terminals does it work with?

Face recognition terminals connect in the same way as other campus attendance devices. Tell us the make and model you have, or plan to buy, and we will confirm how it connects before you commit.

Where is the face data kept, and who can see it?

Face data is held in your region with the rest of your records, and access is restricted by role like other sensitive information. Templates are removed when a student leaves, following the retention schedule in your agreement.
