See what OMR evaluation changes at your institution
Before vs. after adding OMR evaluation to iVake
Where you are today
Holding you back
Days of counting bubbles
Evaluators check every bubble on every sheet of a unit test by hand, and accuracy slips as the pile goes down.
Pain point
Errors found by students
A miscounted sheet comes to light only when a student asks for revaluation, and a committee spends its time on it.
Pain point
Scores typed twice
Totals go into a spreadsheet and then into the result system row by row, with a chance of a slip at each step.
Pain point
The wrong key for the set
Sets A to D are printed to stop copying, and a bundle of Set B is marked against the Set A key.
Pain point
- EverySheet checked bubble by bubble
- 2+Times each score is typed
- DaysBefore the results are ready
Your institution, transformed
Everything connected
The scanner reads the marks
Sheets are scanned in bundles, straightened and read, and evaluators open only the sheets with unclear marks.
Solved
Doubtful marks go to a person
Double bubbles and half-erased answers are flagged with the scanned image, and the evaluator’s decision is logged.
Solved
Straight to the grade book
Scores land against each student in the grade book, with no spreadsheet in between.
Solved
One key for each set
The set code on each sheet picks the matching answer key, so every set is marked against its own.
Solved
- 0Scores retyped
- 1Answer key per paper set
- 1Review queue for unclear marks

Mark answer sheets in batches instead of by hand
Sheets are scanned in bundles and the marks are read automatically. Evaluators deal with the sheets that need a judgement rather than inspecting every bubble.
- Batch scanning on a standard document scanner, or a phone camera where there is no scanner
- Skewed, rotated or faint scans corrected before the marks are read
- Paper sets with shuffled questions marked against their own answer keys
Remove the retyping between evaluation and the grade book
Scores are written against the student record as each sheet is read. There is no spreadsheet to copy from and no row to miss.
- A printed barcode or roll-number bubbles match each sheet to the right student
- Scores sent to the grade book once review is done, without an export
- A breakdown for each student of right, wrong, blank and flagged answers
Write better papers with question-level analysis
Every scanned test shows how each question behaved. Heads of department see which items were too easy, which were too hard, and which options misled nobody or everybody.
- Difficulty for each question: the share of students who answered it correctly
- Discrimination: whether stronger students did better on the question than weaker ones
- Distractor analysis showing which wrong options were chosen, and which never were

Frequently asked questions
Get answers to common questions about OMR evaluation
What scanner do we need, and can we use the ones we already have?
A standard document scanner, or a multi-function printer with a document feeder, is enough for most institutions. For large bundles a dedicated scanner with a feeder is quicker. Where a campus has no scanner, sheets can be photographed on a phone.
What happens when a student fills two bubbles or rubs one out badly?
Multiple marks and incomplete erasures are detected against a sensitivity you set. The sheet goes to a review queue where an evaluator sees the scanned image beside the detected marks and decides, and the decision is written to the audit trail. Clear sheets are marked without anyone opening them.
Can sections of one paper have different marking, including negative marking?
Yes. The answer key can divide a sheet into sections, each with its own marks for a correct answer, its own negative marking or none, and a setting for whether more than one option may be correct. This suits entrance and mock tests that mix question types on one sheet.
How is each sheet matched to the right student?
By a barcode printed on the sheet or a roll-number grid the student fills in, chosen when you design the template. If the barcode cannot be read, the roll-number grid is used; if neither can be read, the sheet is held for someone to identify.
Can we run several sets of the same paper?
Yes. Each set has its own answer key, and a set code on the sheet, bubbled or printed, tells the system which key to apply. Results are combined, and the analysis compares sets so you can see whether one was harder than the others.
What analysis do teachers get after a test?
For every question: how many students got it right, whether stronger students did better on it than weaker ones, and how often each wrong option was picked. Heads of department use it to drop weak questions, rewrite misleading options and balance the next paper, and the figures build up term after term.
Do OMR scores sit alongside written assessment?
Yes. Scores land in the grade book with internal assessment and written marks, so weighting, grade book locks, revaluation and results work as they do for any other assessment, and every change keeps its revision history.
