What server does BigBlueButton need?
A dedicated server, physical or virtual, sized for how many people will be in classes at the same time. Larger institutions spread sessions across several servers. Sizing is worked out with your IT team during setup.
How many classes can run at the same time?
It depends on the server and on how many participants share video. One server suits a department or a small school; several servers behind a load balancer suit a whole university. We size against your timetable rather than a general figure.
How do recordings work, and where are they stored?
BigBlueButton records audio, video, the whiteboard, shared notes and chat as one playback. Recordings are stored on your BigBlueButton server and linked to the course in iVake, and your retention policy decides when they are deleted.
Does this help us meet the DPDP Act?
It helps with one part: class recordings and participant data stay on a server your institution controls rather than with a meeting provider. Consent, access and retention still need your own policy, and your institution remains responsible for its compliance.
How is BigBlueButton different from Google Meet or Teams?
Each can link classes to the timetable and attendance. The difference is where the data sits and how it is paid for: with BigBlueButton, recordings and logs stay on your server and there is no fee per host; with hosted services they sit with the provider, under its terms.
Do students need to install anything?
No. BigBlueButton runs in a current web browser. Students tap the join link in the app and enter the class, which matters on shared or institution-managed devices where installing software is not allowed.
Can iVake host the BigBlueButton server for us?
A private or dedicated deployment can be quoted where your institution needs one. Whether the video server is run by your IT team or arranged with us is agreed during evaluation.
